sad tidings

My mom called me today to let me know that they had to put my cat Velvet to sleep. I knew that she was planning on taking him Monday after work, but it's still very hard to hear because he was my first pet. My sister and I dug out a place for him in the back yard because I hate the idea of him ending up in some random place...He was only eleven, but last year the vet told us that he had kidney stones and that it was only a matter of time before he passed. We tried giving him special food to help his kidneys/bladder region, but it only did so much. As of this weekend he stopped eating and spent most of his time sleeping, and he would be happy to have me pet him and everything, but I could tell he was in pain.

I've heard of other people's cats living much longer, but I guess this is just how things happened. Velvet was the first animal that was completely my responsibility--I got him when I was eight after seeing him on a farm. He knew how to play fetch with hair bands, like the ones girls use for ponytails.

Oooh, so sorry to hear about your sweet kitty!! We had our two cats pass away w/in a few months of each other in '11 (Crystal, the end of April; Angel, the 1st of July). We'd had them since they were babies, and they were only 12 when they died (that doesn't seem nearly long enough, either!!)

Losing our furry babies never gets any easier. I'm so sorry that Velvet's passed! :'-(
I know people who have cats that are 16 or 17 years old, so I was surprised when all of this happened with him. Thanks for the comment/support. I feel kind of silly about moping on here, but I figure this is something most people have been through.
It's totally "normal" to grieve for someone who's been part of your life for so long. One of our cats made it to ~18 years, but most haven't been that long, and it's never long enough :-( One of most personable cats only lived ~4 1/2 years, and we were all totally devistated when he died. We have pets b/c we enjoy their presence in our lives — it only makes sense that we're upset when that presence is no longer with us!
*hugs* I'm sorry, Luna. ♥
Thanks. I appreciate it
I'm so sorry for your loss sweetheart.

I know we don't talk often but if you ever do need someone to talk to, I'm here for ya *hugs*
Aw thank you. I appreciate the offer. It was hard to adjust to this idea initially, but I think I'm becoming more okay with the situation the more I think about it.
Oh no. I'm sorry. Luna.
Thanks for the support.
I'm so sorry. *hugs* He's beautiful.
Thank you. He had such a pretty coat, but I have no idea what type of cat he was. People would sometimes ask me if he was breed xyz, and I'd reply with eh no, he's a barn cat lol.
I am so sorry. There is nothing that compares to losing a pet. Nothing. Thinking of you. *hugs*
Thanks, I definitely appreciate it.
I'm so sorry to hear this, sweetie. Velvet was beautiful. *hugs*
Thank you. I think it was probably the best thing for him, but it's not an easy decision to make.
